Ya’an Canyon Uniaxial Stretch Geogrid Reinforcement Project

Project background:
The geological structure in the Ya'an area is complex, and during the rainy season, the infiltration of water from the mountains can easily trigger shallow landslides. The steep slope of the valley road is affected by continuous rainwater erosion and vehicle vibration, leading to a continuous decrease in the stability of the surface soil mass. There is a risk of local collapses, threatening the safety of road traffic and the integrity of infrastructure.

The project is located in the steep slope and sharp bend section of the Ya'an Gorge. The slope angle reaches over 45°, and the surface has a large catchment area, making traditional slope protection difficult to resist long-term seepage erosion. Our team carried out the construction according to a standardized process:
- Remove rocks, loose soil and vegetation roots on the slope surface, and level it into a stepped working surface. Then we set up longitudinal drainage ditches to guide surface water.
- Lay biaxial stretch geogrids from the bottom to the top of the slope; Use special connectors to overlap joint sections; Embed the geogrid ends into dug anchoring grooves and fix them with concrete backfill to ensure the integrity of the reinforcement system.
- Backfill modified soil in layers on top of the geogrids and compact it layer by layer using compaction equipment.
- Cover the top geogrid with anti-erosion vegetation mat. After completion, we detect geogrid laying positions, test anchoring strength and evaluate the overall slope stability.
Project conclusion:
This project has established a longitudinal and stable system through the use of geogrid reinforcement, which has increased the shear strength of the slope surface soil, effectively mitigating the risk of landslides. The system is expected to have a service life of over 20 years under normal maintenance conditions, providing long-term stable slope protection for the canyon road.
