What is EVA Waterproof Board?
In recent years, with the advancement of construction technology and the development of material technology, the new specialized waterproof boards based on EVA materials have gradually become the mainstream choice in various tunnel engineering projects.
What is EVA? Why we choose EVA as the base material of waterproof board?
- The core component of Zhonglong waterproof board is ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, also known as EVA. Compared with polyethylene (PE), EVA, due to the introduction of vinyl acetate monomer in the molecular chain, reduces the high crystallinity, improves toughness, impact resistance, filler compatibility and thermal sealing properties.

- This polymer material is added with special additives and anti-aging components under controlled conditions, enabling better molding and post-use stability during the processing process.
- In addition, EVA waterproof boards also have excellent resistance to environmental stress cracking, as well as excellent chemical stability, which can resist the erosion of various acidic and alkaline components.
- Moreover, the material itself is non-toxic and not absorbent, having a minimal impact on underground water sources and the surrounding environment, in line with the concept of green and environmentally friendly construction.

How is EVA waterproof board processed?
The processing of EVA waterproof boards relies on high-precision production technology.
- Currently it mainly uses the extrusion process, where molten plasticized resin materials are uniformly extruded through the die of an extruder, forming continuous sheets.
- While the sheets are still in a high-temperature plastic state, they are simultaneously fed into the calendering unit with hoisting belts or geotextiles, completing the compounding and cooling through multiple sets of roller cylinders.
- This process can produce both smooth and composite waterproof boards with high surface flatness, even thickness and stable overall performance.

In terms of composite waterproof, Zhonglong have two main products on this—Sand-coating EVA Waterproof and Self-adhesive Waterproof Board, which both adopt the process of adhesive bonding & sand-coating. That is applying specialized adhesive bonding on the sheet surface, then evenly spreading quartz sand, which enhances the anti-sliding capability during construction.
How do I choose EVA waterproofing boards or HDPE geomembrane?
- EVA waterproof board primarily considers utilizing its characteristics of flexibility and impermeability for applications on structures with complex surfaces and a high requirement for surface adhesion, such as tunnel, underground civil engineering, etc.
- HDPE geomembrane is more commonly used in scenarios with environmental exposure and higher loads due to its excellent physical rigidity and deformation resistance, such as landfill project, tailings, aquaculture...
