There is a huge difference in performance between geomembranes made from low-cost recycled materials and those produced from high-quality virgin raw materials.   • Virgin Material: High uniformity in color. Standard black membranes feature a consistent matte or glossy finish (high-quality carbon black dispersion added). White or colored membranes appear pure and free of pigment streaking.
  • Recycled Material: Inconsistent coloration, showing localized variations in gray, brown or yellowish tints. The surface appears dull or muddy, and may exhibit unnatural or uneven reflectivity.

2. Olfactory

  • Virgin Material: Odorless or a faint, neutral scent like polymer .
  • Recycled Material: Pungent chemical odors and acrid scents, especially after thermal exposure or UV radiation

3. Tactility and Ductility

  • Virgin Material: Supple texture with excellent elastic recovery and resistance to stress whitening (crazing) even after repeated folding or elongation..
  • Recycled Material: Stiff or brittle. Repeated bending causes premature fracture or visible stress whitening.

4. Surface Morphology and Homogeneity

  • Virgin Material: Smooth, uniform surface with consistent thickness. No macro impurities and gels.
  • Recycled Material: Sand-like particles (unmelted contaminants), or carbonized specks, and jagged or poorly trimmed edges.

5. Documentation and Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Virgin Material: Produced by raw material factories with certification, standardized packaging and traceable sources
  • Recycled Material: Produced by raw material factories without production qualifications or without passing the raw material industry standards.
