How to Choose Uniaxial Stretch and Biaxial Stretch Goegrid
Maintenance and reinforcement projects of highway subgrade and slopes are important municipal engineering works. Due to the special nature of the construction environment, how to construct quickly and efficiently as well as ensure long-term stability is largely determined by the construction materials.
Zhonglong Environmental Protection is currently the largest manufacturer and service provider of geosynthetic materials in Southwest China. Its polypropylene (PP) geogrids are widely used in industries such as chemical, power, and water treatment, due to their advantages of corrosion resistance, insulation, and low maintenance requirements. PP geogrids are mainly divided into two types according to their production processes: single-directional (uniaxial) and bidirectional (biaxial). Their structural characteristics and load-bearing performance show significant differences.
First, due to the use of high-quality PP raw materials, our geogrids perform absolutely better than recycled products from competitors in terms of general load capacity, dimensional stability, anti-slip safety, and corrosion resistance lifespan. Second, the application of uniaxial and biaxial differs in physical structure:
Uniaxial Stretch Geogrids: Made through a uniaxial reinforcement bar stretching process. The longitudinal strip structure is stretched in a specific direction at high temperature, with the molecular chains aligned in a single direction, forming high-strength load-bearing main bars. The transverse connecting strips are fixed by mechanical pressing or hot melt welding, resulting in relatively weaker transverse structural integrity.

Biaxial Stretch Geogrids: Formed through a biaxial simultaneous stretching process. The longitudinal and transverse reinforcement bars are simultaneously stretched and cross-linked at high temperature and pressure, forming a fully integrated network structure, with significantly enhanced node strength.

Therefore, uniaxial stretch geogrids are suitable for load-bearing applications in the vertical direction, such as slope vertical reinforcement or light load scenarios; biaxial stretch geogrids are suitable for all-around horizontal reinforcement and high load scenarios on surfaces which are vertical to geogrid.
