HDPE Geomembrane Tips: Break Elongation Test
"Break Elongation" has always been one of the most critical indicators for HDPE geomembranes, with both GB/T 17643-2025 and GRI-GM13 2016 requiring ≥700%. This indicator is directly related to whether HDPE geomembranes can withstand the deformation of the substrate caused by significant external forces under extreme long-term service conditions. Zhonglong Environmental Protection's HDPE geomembranes are manufactured using brand-new HDPE resin and fully meet this requirement under specific processing conditions. This article briefly introduces the standard sampling and testing procedures.
This experiment follows the test requirements of GB/T 17643-2025 (see page 11 for details).
Step 1: Sampling
Cut a sample of HDPE geomembrane on the workbench using a standard mold, and ensure its appearance meets the requirements of the standard to maintain the scientific rigor of the experimental results.
Step 2: Measuring and marking
Make marks at specific positions on the sample to ensure the experimental fixture can be accurately secured.
Step 3: Setting test parameters
Set up detection standards and corresponding test method parameters in the computer program.
Step 4: Start test and take reading
The sample will be gradually elongated at the speed specified in the test standard, and the test ends after final fracture. Check the various data displayed on the computer.
Step 5: Test conclusion
In a random periodic sampling test, the break elongation of the sample reached 800%, which exceeds the standard indicator.
Thus, as one of the multiple tests for HDPE geomembrane, the Break Elongation Test can intuitively demonstrate the material's excellent ductility. It is a relatively simple and quick test, yet still requires professional testing equipment and procedures to ensure accuracy.
