Can Waterproofing Materials Prevent Fly Ash Pollution?

2025-09-23

Fly ash is not ordinary dust visible to the naked eye. It is a pollutant generated during chemical processes, characterized by high corrosiveness and strong permeability, primarily originating from waste incineration. This substance can gradually disperse through water sources, thereby contaminating the surrounding environment. As an eco-friendly manufacturer, Zhonglong Environmental Protection employs a multi-layer composite anti-seepage system to ensure pollution containment when addressing potential fly ash contamination, once again successfully demonstrating the excellent performance of our products.

Even the slightest negligence in handling fly ash can lead to irreversible pollution. Therefore, the anti-seepage system must be designed with multiple protective layers to ensure long-term, stable containment of fly ash.

  1. To address the strong permeability of fly ash, HDPE geomembrane must be selected as the main material:

In the entire system, the HDPE geomembrane serves as the most direct and core impermeable barrier. Its thickness must reach 1 mm or more to ensure sufficient mechanical strength and protective performance. At the same time, a nonwoven geotextile with a weight of no less than 300 g/m² shall be placed above the membrane to provide cushioning and protection, preventing damage to the membrane caused by sharp particles or external impacts during construction or landfill operations.

  2. A clay layer with a thickness of 30 cm or more shall be laid beneath the main material:

The clay layer can both support and bear the main material, and in the event of damage to the main material, it can serve as the secondary impermeable layer (the clay permeability coefficient shall be within 1.0×10^-7 cm/s).

By working through multiple impermeable layers, the entire impermeable system can compensate for the shortcomings between materials and work together to maximize the effect.

For a manufacturer, as the saying "high-quality materials are key, and excellent craftsmanship is the guarantee". The double-sided smooth HDPE geomembrane produced by Sichuan Zhonglong Environmental Protection works as the core component in fly ash anti-seepage system. It offers three major advantages:

  • High Strength: Maintains tensile and compressive resistance even under complex geological conditions, resisting stress cracking and punctures.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Performs stably in high-salinity, acidic or alkaline environments, effectively resisting erosion.
  • Low Permeability: Combined with drainage design, it enhances the overall anti-seepage efficiency of the system.

With standardized and regulated construction processes, it maximizes the protection of soil and water safety and prevents the contamination from fly ash.
